The Delhi High Court Bar Association has strongly condemned the act of developing and hosting the “Bulli Bai” app in an emergent meeting held virtually by it’s Executive Committee on Wednesday.

The Bulli Bai Application is similar to “Sulli Deals “which had also resulted in a controversy last year.

Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) had immediately swung into action and on October 29, 2021 wrote a letter to Mr. Anyesh Roy DCP Delhi Police (Cyber Cell) requesting an expeditious investigation in the “Sulli Deals” incident.

The Internet Freedom Foundation (“IFF”) is a registered charitable trust which advocates to

protect and advance constitutional freedoms in a digital society. We work across a wide spectrum

of issues, with expertise in free speech, electronic surveillance, data protection, net neutrality and

innovation; we aim to champion privacy protections, digital security, and individual freedoms in

the digital age. We are writing to you today concerned about the lack of progress made in the

investigation of the “Sulli Deals” incident.”

The DHBA unequivocally and in the strongest terms condemns the malicious, mischievous and reprehensible act of creating, developing and hosting of the App “Bulli Bai” allowing the users to participate in a false auction of several respectable ladies.

The said act is not only tantamount to commission of grave criminal offences but also targets and brings disrepute to the female citizenry.

It is further resolved that the Lawyers body will write to the Commissioner of Police, and demand an immediate registration of FIR and efficient, expeditious investigation thereafter, so that all persons found guilty of having committed the dastardly crime are punished in accordance with law.

The Act is against the modesty of women and the government should take strict action against this DHCBA Member executive Advocate Nagendra said.

Recently the Mumbai police has lodged a FIR against unidentified people following Complaints that doctored photographs of hundreds of Muslim women were uploaded for an” Auction “on the “Bulli Bai” app. Hosted on the open-source software platform, GitHub.

The Mumbai police has arrested two people a woman alleged to be the main culprit and an engineering the student inn connection with the case.

The women whose photographs appeared on the App includes prominent journalists, social activists and lawyers.

NDTV reports that the lady arrested was using three different accounts in Bulli App. Initially the account was opened with a name called Khalsa Supremacist to mislead the masses.
